TT’was the Night Before Christmas: A Christian Version

December 24, 2022   //   2 comments

T’was the night before Christmas,

And all through the stable.

Not a creature was stirring – awaiting the King.

To be born of a virgin as God alone could bring.

And so, the Angel appeared to shepherds

Announcing His birth.

Come and see for it’s of great worth.

With news of His arrival – excitement abounding,

For angels on high sang “Glory” resounding.

Shepherds and wise men came to see,

What God had promised to be.

The promise was written by prophets of old,

As God wanted the story to be told.

O Bethlehem Ephrathah though small in size,

Your star will shine as the King arrives.

For He shall rule with truth and justice,

Like David His heir.

The difference is that sin’s burden to share,

Was one that only He could bear.

O Jesus, my Savior if only for me,

Your death on Calvary would still have to be.

As Christ died on Calvary’s tree.

For sin forgiven in righteousness abound,

No other savior could ever be found.

So, in this season of Christmas,

Let us stop and ponder.

Of God’s gift to us was surely a wonder.

Epilogue: O Little Town of Bethlehem, verse 4 (LSB 361)

O holy child of Bethlehem,

Descend on us we pray.

Cast out our sin and enter in,

Be born in us today.

We hear the Christmas angels

The great glad tidings tell;

O come to us, abide with us,

Our Lord Immanuel.

Amen!

Note: This poem was prepared by me for Christmas 2020.  If I copied it from another source, I failed to document the source.  On this Christmas Eve 2022, I wanted to post this beautiful poem about our LORD’s arrival and His purpose on earth.

Peace

Connected in Him, I stand
