Uncharted Waters is a collection of stories as well as related data that attempt to tell the story of how men and women are motivated by God’s urging to take the gracious Word of God to those who have not heard about the Christ and His saving act of redemption.
The title was chosen in part as many are called to areas of the world where spoken languages may be used but reading and writing skills are rare. In addition, other missionaries are assigned or accept tasks (calls) of going into areas of the world that have never heard the message of salvation and the power of the Word.
This book begins with the story of a man in the 19th century who was the son of an itinerant preacher whose aspirations of discovery outweighed his father’s desire for him to become a preacher and follow in his father’s footsteps. His name is John Wesley Powell. Unfortunately, many may not recognize his name for his discovery and mapping of the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. John Wesley was named after the founder of Methodism. He was self taught in most aspects and was a war hero of the Civil War. Major Powell’s desire to map the unknown was not to be denied regardless of the barriers he encountered. He was physically handicapped having lost his right arm in the Civil War, to name just one!
And so just as Major Powell and his crew left to examine the unknown, so God’s messengers step off into the deep Uncharted Waters armed only with His Word!
Peace
Connected in Him, I stand
